Nick Fury And Captain Marvel Get To Know Each Other In New Clip

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is on a precipice, with just two more blockbusters left in Phase Three. But before the surviving heroes arm back up to take the fight to Thanos with Endgame, we'll get Carol Danver's origin story with Captain Marvel. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's upcoming 90's set blockbuster will greatly expand the shared universe, including familiar faces like Nick Fury, Phil Coulson, Korath and Ronan. Samuel L. Jackson's signature character will have a major presence, as Captain Marvel and the Kree War are the first superheroic entities he came across.

Fans are eager to see the pairing of Carol Danvers and Nick Fury, as her entrance was teased during the post-credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War. With the movie just weeks away, new clips and trailers have been arriving to satiate the hunger of the fandom. Check out the two Marvel heroes spar with each other verbally in the clip below.

Is it March 8th yet? This is the longest clip we've seen of Samuel L. Jackson's young Nick Fury, digitally de-aged through cutting-edge CGI. He looks picture perfect, and it's clear that Fury and Carol Danvers are going to have serious chemistry when the blockbuster arrives in a matter of weeks.

This new footage comes to us from Flicks And The City Clips, and is presumably early into Carl Danvers and Nick Fury's relationship. There was a scuffle of come sort previously, as Fury is rocking a fresh cut on his head. The two heroes try and get to know each other, and discern whether the other is a shape shifting Skrull. Carol wants Fury to tell details about his personal life, including some hilarious quirks including his first pet and even how he likes his toast cut. It's clear that the duo enjoys each other, as they banter and smile through their introductions.

The relationship between Captain Marvel and Nick Fury will presumably be an important one, as Samuel L. Jackson is billed just below Brie Larson, and is heavily featured in the film's marketing material. Fury has been largely absent in Phase Three, with the actor expressing his chagrin for being excluded from Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther. But he popped up briefly in the tail end of Infinity War, and is expected to be a major character in both Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home.

This latest clip also shows how elusive and expansive the Skrull threat to Earth will be in Captain Marvel. Because the alien forces can change their shape, presumably anyone Carol Danvers and Nick Fury interact with could be a spy. Good thing for the title character, Nick Fury knows a think or two about being a spy. Of course, that doesn't mean that the duo will end up unscathed. Captain Marvel is expected to reveal how the S.H.I.E.L.D. favorite injured his eye, while also revealing the origin of the other returning characters.

Captain Marvel will arrive in theaters on March 8, 2019. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.

New wider Cinema White and Cinema Grey Microperf Projection Materials for Larger Home Theater and Commercial/Pro AV Installations

Press Release Summary: Original Press Release: Severtson Screens Announces New Wider Cinema White & Cinema Grey Microperf Projection Screen Materials

Now Shipping and Available Up to 200-Inches (Diagonal) 16:9 Aspect Ratio, the Made in the USA 1.3 Gain Screens Are Ideal for Larger Home Theater and Commercial/Pro AV Installs

Mesa, Ariz., Feb. 14, 2019 – Severtson Screens (www.severtsonscreens.com), a global leader in innovative and quality projection screens for the home theater, commercial, pro AV, and cinema markets, is pleased to announce the launch of its new wider (up to 200-inch diagonal at 16:9 aspect ratio) Cinema White and Cinema Grey microperf projection materials. Ideal for larger home theater and commercial/pro AV installations, the new Made in the USA screen material is now available.

"Just as in the cinema market, microperf is quickly becoming a home theater, commercial and pro AV market industry standard as projection resolutions increase," explained Toby Severtson, president and CEO of Severtson Corp. "It is becoming the screen of choice for high-end installations as our microperf viewing surfaces practically eliminates moiré which is often problematic of screens with larger perforation, yet continues to provide a more realistic soundstage allowing speakers to be placed directly behind the screen."

Microperf offers multiple benefits versus standard perforation screens. It is the answer for current ultra high-performance cinema screens, depending on an install's specific needs, and is the perfect solutions for higher projection resolutions as these technologies become available in the future.

"Microperf provides approximately seven percent open space against the traditional 4.5 percent open space," Severtson added. "Severtson's microperf is engineered for the optimum audio and visual experience available in the marketplace today."

Severtson Screens' Cinema White material is more than 30 percent brighter than Matte White. "It is a unique fabric that offers a bright, uniform image with no color shift at any viewing angle," Severtson continued. "This surface is designed to provide a higher amount of brightness for lower output projector types. Its increased reflectivity will help enhance image brightness in situations where a low level of ambient light is present. Cinema White and Cinema Grey are washable with mild soap and water, flame retardant and mildew resistant."

Custom sizes are available. Severtson asks that customers contact them directly for individual pricing for their specific needs and for production and delivery timing.

"Our customers asked for this combination in a larger screen surface, and we have delivered," Severtson concluded.

Having celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2016, Severtson Corporation continues to be a global leader in innovation and quality. The Severtson family's extensive experience in manufacturing small home theater screens and large cinema screens has given Severtson Corporation the expertise to meet the needs of the professional and consumer AV markets for both indoor applications as well as large outdoor venues. With its three Arizona-based production facilities and its state-of-the-art robotic application system, Severtson has massive production capabilities and an unusually wide array of screens. The screens range in size from massive movie theaters, comfortable home theaters, and everything in between.

Iconic Metro Cinema back in a new avatar

Four years after its curtains were downed, the city's iconic Metro Cinema is back in a new avatar on Friday - as a multiplex and a departmental store.

The gate of the renovated heritage building opened to welcome people to Metro Central.

Located at Esplanade area in the heart of the city, it now houses a 50,000 square feet departmental store and a multiplex, in place of the single screen theatre, officials of the departmental store said.

The departmental store opened on Friday, but the multiplex to be operated by Inox was expected to begin screening of movies within 2-3 months.

The Metro cinema was built in 1934 by the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) to promote their films in Kolkata, targeting the large English-speaking population of that time.

Opened in 1935, the theatre was designed by New York-based Scottish theatre architect, Thomas W. Lamb, who also designed the Metro Cinema in Mumbai for MGM later in 1938.

The theatre pulled its shutters in 2014 as it failed to remain viable in the midst of growing multiplex culture.

The departmental store - Central Metro, a venture of the Central fashion chain - would keep alive the nostalgia of cinema associated with the theatre.

Central CEO Vishnu Prasad said the store has amalgamated fashion and culture.

"There will be displays of major movies that had been screened here in the past," Prasad said.

Study: More diverse movie leads in 2018 than ever

NEW YORK (AP) — The top films in 2018 featured more female and people of color in lead roles than ever before, according to a new study from the University of Southern California's Annenberg Inclusion Initiative.

In a report released Tuesday, researchers found that women were the lead or co-lead in 40 of the 100 highest-grossing films of 2018. That's an increase of eight movies from 2017 and 20 movies from 2007, when the annual study was begun.

There were 28 films with leads or co-leads from an underrepresented racial or ethnic group in 2018. That, too, was a substantial increase from the year prior and the highest mark on record.

Those numbers still fall short of reflecting demographics. Women make up about 51 percent of the U.S. population. Underrepresented groups make up about 39 percent of the population.

The gains came in a year that saw record box-office returns, thanks in part to releases like "Black Panther," the top-selling film in North American theaters, and the breakout romantic comedy, "Crazy Rich Asians."

Stacy L. Smith, director of the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, called the results "a step in the right direction."

"2018 offers hope that industry members have taken action to create content that better reflects the world in which we live, and the box office seems to have rewarded them for it," said Smith. "This data shows us that it is possible for change to be achieved — companies must not grow complacent but continue the progress they have made in 2019 and in the years to come."

Some of the largest increases came in more narrow demographics. Eleven of the top 100 films starred a woman of color. In 2017, there were four. The same number of films, 11, featured female leads aged 45 years or older. In 2017, there were five.

‘Lego Movie 2’ Opening Below Forecasts in $40 Million Range

"The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part" is dominating North American moviegoing but opening well below forecasts with about $40 million at 4,303 sites this weekend, early estimates showed Friday.

Paramount Pictures' launch of the comedy "What Men Want" will lead the rest of the pack with about $20 million at 2,912 locations, in line with recent projections. Lionsgate's Liam Neeson thriller "Cold Pursuit" is heading for third with around $11 million, followed by STX's fifth frame of "The Upside" and Universal's fourth weekend of "Glass" in the $7 million range. Orion's debut of supernatural thriller "The Prodigy" is heading for sixth between $5 million and $6 million.

"The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part," the fourth movie in the Lego franchise, had been pegged to open with $50 million but narrowly topped "What Men Want" in Thursday previews with $1.5 million. Warner Bros. provided an estimate in the $40 million to $45 million range at mid-day Friday while another studio forecasted in the $35 million area.

The animated comedy stars Chris Pratt as the voice of Emmet Brickowski and new character Rex Dangervest. The story follows the always-optimistic Emmet searching for Lucy (voiced by Elizabeth Banks) after her abduction. Tiffany Haddish is voicing the shapeshifting Queen Watevra Wa'Nabi, along with Will Arnett as Batman.

Mike Mitchell directed "The Lego Movie 2," while Phil Lord and Christopher Miller produced and co-wrote the film with "BoJack Horseman" creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg. Reviews have been strong, with the film earning an 84% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The original "The Lego Movie" debuted with an impressive $69 million on the same weekend in 2014 and "The Lego Batman Movie" generated a $53 million opening weekend in February 2017. "The Lego Ninjago Movie" was decidedly less successful with a $20 million launch in September, 2017.

"What Men Want" stars Taraji P. Henson in a reversal of Mel Gibson's "What Women Want." Henson plays a sports agent able to hear men's thoughts. Reviews have been mixed, with a 48% Rotten Tomatoes score.

"Cold Pursuit" carries the additional baggage of Neeson-generated headlines this week for making racist comments about a friend's rape 40 years ago. Forecasts have been in the range of $7 million to $10 million from 2,6300 theaters. Neeson plays a Colorado snow plower who seeks vengeance after his son is mysteriously murdered.

Orion is releasing "The Prodigy" with expectations in the $7 million range. "Orange Is the New Black" actress Taylor Schilling stars in a story of parents forced to investigate if their child is possessed by evil spirits.

Domestic moviegoing has been soft so far in 2019 with a 16.6% decline to $904.5 million as of Feb. 6, according to Comscore.

New Orleans-based Southern Theaters sells Movie Tavern chain

Movie Tavern, the 22-location dine-in theater chain purchased in 2013 by New Orleans theater magnate George Solomon's Southern Theaters, once more has a new owner. The Milwaukee-based Marcus Theatres has announced its purchase of the chain in a deal valued at approximately $139 million.

The sale, which according to a press release was made for $30 million cash and approximately 2.45 million shares of Marcus stock, was closed on Friday (Feb. 1). It reportedly makes Marcus the fourth-largest theater circuit in the country.

With the change in ownership, all Movie Tavern theaters -- including those in Covington and Baton Rouge -- will be rebranded "Movie Tavern by Marcus." They will still, however, be built around "chef-driven" food and beverage offerings, delivered to moviegoers' seats by the theaters' wait staff.

Gina Rodriguez's 'Miss Bala' offers a sturdy dose of border-set action

Beginning Tuesday (Feb. 5), Marcus Theatres will also expand its popular weekly "$5 Tuesday" program all 22 Movie Tavern by Marcus locations, a company spokeswoman said. As that name suggests, the program offers $5 tickets to all movies, in addition to a free serving of popcorn.

Plans are also being put in place for additional amenities -- such as large-format screens and recliner seating -- at select locations, although specific plans have yet to be announced.

Watch all the new movie and TV trailers from the 2019 Super Bowl

These days, the Super Bowl isn't just the biggest event in the American football calendar – it's also a huge platform for movie studios and TV companies to showcase their biggest, most exciting upcoming offerings.

And this year has proved no exception – thanks to Super Bowl 2019, we've had new looks at everything from Avengers: Endgame and Jordan Peele's Us to the new Twilight Zone and the third series of telly thriller The Handmaid's Tale.

We've collected all the big teasers from this year's Super Bowl here in one handy round-up. One thing's for sure: we have an exciting few months of big- and small-screen entertainment ahead of us...

    Avengers: Endgame

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo follow up on the epic first trailer for their Infinity War sequel with a new TV spot that, while short, offers quite a lot of new footage – including Tony Stark and Nebula getting techy, Black Widow getting trigger happy and Cap getting his shield back. Avengers: Endgame is in cinemas from 26 April.

    Captain Marvel

Before the Avengers suit up again, the MCU is taking us back to the '90s with Captain Marvel. This latest teaser follows the Earth-bound rise of Brie Larson's titular superhero and introduces us to her mantra: higher, further, faster (someone must already be working on the Daft Punk mash-up, right?). It's been a long wait, but Captain Marvel will be finally landing in cinemas on 8 March 2019.

    Toy Story 4

Our latest peek at the toys' upcoming fourth adventure sees Woody reconnecting with the new-look Bo Peep, while Buzz Lightyear finds himself in a spot of bother – trapped on a fairground prize stand alongside the none-too-pleased Ducky and Bunny (voiced by franchise newbies Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele). Toy Story 4 opens in cinemas on 21 June 2019.

    Us

Speaking of Jordan Peele, the Get Out writer/director brings us his "new nightmare" with Us – a home invasion horror with a twist, in that the invaders are actually doppelgangers of the family being stalked. Starring Black Panther duo Lupita Nyong'o and Winston Duke, this new TV spot doesn't offer much in the way of fresh footage (most of it is a repeat of what we saw in the first trailer), but it does look creepy as hell. The film opens on 22 March.

    The Twilight Zone

Not only is Jordan Peele bringing us a new big-screen horror to feast on, but he's also the face of a TV "reimagining" of sci-fi/horror anthology series The Twilight Zone. "What dimension are you even in?" he asks ominously, before the iconic theme tune kicks in. The series will be available on US streaming service CBS All Access from April – there's no word yet on which UK channel/streaming service will pick it up.

    The Handmaid's Tale

The dystopian drama is back for a third season in 2019, and here we get an early first look – in which Elisabeth Moss' Offred warns America to "wake up". Sounds like she's on a mission to bring down Gilead once and for all. No news yet on an air date, though.

    Wonder Park

Paramount dropped the trailer for their latest feature-length animation before the big game. The tale of a theme-park obsessed young girl whose fantasy attraction comes to life, Wonder Park is backed by an impressive voice cast: Jennifer Garner, Matthew Broderick, Mila Kunis, John Oliver and Tom Baker, to name a few. The film opens on 8 April.

Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark

Directed by André Øvredal (Troll Hunter), produced by Guillermo del Toro and based on the bestselling children's book series, Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark had not one but three short, sharp teasers, giving a brief taster of what we can expect from the mystery chiller. The film is set for release in the US this summer; there's no UK release date set at the moment.

'Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth' coming to North America June 4th

It's been a long time coming, but Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth is finally making its way to North America. The game, which was first teased back in 2017 and was released in Japan last year, will be available exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS on June 4th according to IGN. The game will retail for $39.99, but a premium edition that comes with an art book, plush toy, buttons and playing cards will be available for $69.99.

Persona Q2 is a crossover game that features characters from of several previous titles in the franchise. The full casts of Persona 3, Persona 4 and Persona 5 all appear in the game, as does the unnamed female protagonist that appeared in Persona 3 Portable -- a port of Persona 3 released for the PlayStation Portable. The game takes place primarily in dungeons that are themed around classic movie genres and feature allusions on famous films and tropes.

The arrival of Persona Q2 extends the surprisingly long lifespan of the Nintendo 3DS. More than 75 million units of Nintendo's portable system have been sold since it first dropped in 2011. The introduction of the Switch has hurt the handheld with developers focusing more on Nintendo's hybrid console, but there are still a number of first-party titles that will make their way to the 3DS this year.

Game of Thrones & Sex Education Actors Co-Star in New Movie Filmed in Kingston

Last summer, the streets of Kingston's Stockade district were barricaded for days at a time while a film crew worked on an unknown project. In cafes and offices, excited rumors flew—Arya Stark is out there filming a movie! As they rarely are, the rumors proved true.

On February 1, Then Came You will screen in a dozen cities across the country and be available on demand. In the film, Asa Butterfield, who recently rocketed to household fame with Netflix's January release of "Sex Education," stars opposite the ever-popular GOT badass Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) in a heart-warming story about love, loss, and the preciousness of life.

Then Came You is the latest installment in a singular category of Young Adult films that strive to delve into the difficult territory of death. Like A Walk to Remember and The Fault in Our Stars, the movie's plot focuses on two young people (one terminally ill, one not) who help each other get the most out of life. And like those that came before it, Then Came You looks to be a perfect blend of funny, moving, and almost certainly tear-jerking.

We sat down with the film's director Peter Hutchings, a Hudson Valley resident, to talk about his career, the film, and the Hudson Valley movie biz.

Then Came You will be available on demand on February 1. It will also screen at Upstate Films in Rhinebeck on March 3 and for a week at Rosendale Theatre starting March 8.

    Q&A with Peter Hutchings

Without any spoilers, tell us about the film's plot.

Asa Butterfield plays a young hypochondriac, Calvin, who has dropped out of college and is living with his family. He's just afraid of everything. He's worried that he has cancer, so his doctor sends him to support group to gain perspective. There he meets Skye, who is played by Maisie Williams, and she is just this burst of light in this life. She enlists him to help her carry out her eccentric bucket list. And in return, she is going to help him come out of his shell and get the girl (played by Nina Dobrev). It's a wonderful sweet story about friendship and the proximity between life and death.

You also worked on the movie The Outcasts, which is about high schoolers. Would you say that YA Movies are your niche?

I really like working in that space. I think that there is something about adolescence—everything is more dramatic, more intense. So it becomes this really interesting, heightened examination of the human condition.

I also love the idea of making something that is entertaining, but also substantial for a younger audience. That said, I've now seen this movie [Then Came You] played for people of all ages and been blown away by response of people young and old. It means a lot to me to see people resonate and find themselves in these characters, regardless of their age.

I know you live here, but why else did you choose to film in the Hudson Valley?

We were initially thinking about shooting it elsewhere and it was actually the increased tax credit that Laurent Retjo, the Hudson Valley Film Commission, and a whole host of other entities helped put through that got this movie made in the Hudson Valley. It made the difference for us. The production company, BCDF Pictures, is also based in the Hudson Valley, in Kerhonkson.

We'd been looking for something to shoot in the Hudson Valley and this project really jumped out, and Kingston in particular as a location, because it is such a charming city with so much character, history, and specificity that it really worked for the story we were telling.

Speaking of specificity, are there any specific traits that made shooting upstate more viable or desirable?

A good amount of story happens at airport. We were planning to only shoot for a day because airports are notoriously terrible places to shoot. But we went up and met the team at Albany airport, and they were so wonderful and inviting. We ended up shooting almost a week there. It was a great experience.

When I made the decision with the producers to shoot in Kingston and around the Hudson Valley, we started to adapt some of the scenes to local specificity. There was an interior mall scene that we relocated to take place on Wall Street in Kingston. Another scene was set in a parking lot, but I wanted to shoot it down by the Rondout, in that beautiful setting. One scene after another was made better by the environment we were able to find here.

In the trailer I spotted Wall Street, Academy Green Park, the Kingston waterfront. What other landmarks might viewers recognize in the movie?

We shot a little bit at the old firehouse museum. We shot in a few houses in Kingston as locations for some of characters' homes. We shot inside Outdated Cafe and Bop to Tottom clothing shop. And there is a quick bit where Maisie is playing dice behind BSP, right underneath the Artemis mural.

How was it working with the city of Kingston?

Man, they were just wonderful. They really came out and supported. Just a few weeks ago, in an article Mayor Noble was saying how happy he was with the production. That means a lot to us, because we're very locally minded. To the producers, it's very important to participate in the community. It's important that when we can shoot a movie locally, we hire locally, and support local businesses through all the different things films bring to area.

Were you able to hire locally?

It's a union movie, so we had to hire union crew. But one of the things that's happening is that there are a growing number of union film crew members in the area. There have been some people who come up from the city to do movies here, and then end up moving. It really speaks to just how special this region and this community is.

Did you shoot anywhere else in the Hudson Valley?

The quarry in Esopus. We also shot a couple days at Bard College in the swimming pool. We tried to keep a small footprint.

    Where did you do post-production?

At the BCDF facility in Kerhonkson. We had to go down to the city for the sound mix and for color correction, which is very standard. Other than that this was very much a Hudson Valley production.

How did you come to cast the two British actors in a film set in the US?

The original script was set in Dublin, and when we moved it to the US, I thought it might be interesting to keep one of the characters British. I knew Maisie and I loved her. She was my first choice for the role. Luckily she responded to the material as much as the rest of us did, so she came on board. I thought it would be interesting to keep her character English. Then it just panned out that Asa was the best for role of Calvin. It wasn't premeditated.

How was it working with them?

I can't say enough good things about the two of them and Nina Dobrev and the rest of the cast. They are just so wonderfully talented, positive, and team-oriented. We really had a blast making the movie, both on- and off-set.

We all knew this was an important story to tell. You'll see, the movie is very funny and entertaining, and we wanted to stay light in dealing with some heavy subject matter, so we tried to keep a very fun set. Maisie and Asa were just terrific with that.

How has the public reception been?

So far great. The reviews are still coming in. I'm really excited for people to get to see this movie. It is a fun and entertaining, but also really meaningful. Think it's going to stay with people. We had our premier at the Woodstock Film Festival this past fall. It was a little bit of a homecoming. We had two screenings and they both got terrific responses.

Are you working on any other movies?

I just shot another movie that had a scene in Outdated Cafe and around Kingston. It's a romantic comedy called Can You Keep a Secret? It's based on a screenplay adapted from very popular book by Sophie Kinsella. It's in post-production now.

What do you see as the Hudson Valley's main assets for directors/producers?

Wonderful locations, great crew. Being in a region that is so supportive of the arts and so conducive to the creative process it is really energizing and inspiring. I love the connection to nature out here.

What do you see as its major challenges? Where does it still need to grow?

New York has to continue the tax incentive program. And there is room for it to be improved. It was a great step establishing the extra tax credits, but for some reason, it doesn't apply to all local services, which doesn't make sense to me.

And we also need to work to make sure that there are crews available in the Hudson Valley or that can be brought up from the city if need be.

I've heard there is a shortage of local union workers. Is that true? How do we fix that?

It's a bit of a Catch 22. Union crew members would be happy to come up to Hudson Valley if there was a steady stream of union films, but in order to have a steady stream, the Hudson Valley needs to have more local union crew. It would be helpful to negotiate a contract that allowed more non-union crew to work on union films.

For Then Came You, the sound mixing and color correction was done in the city. Is that a service that could relocate to the Hudson Valley?

Definitely. If you had a bonafide stage that could do sound mix and color correction, you could incentivize people to come up here for post-production. In New York City, unless you're doing a very high-budget film, the mixing stages are really small. You could have a really big soundstage in the Hudson Valley.

Where do you see the Hudson Valley film industry in 5 years? And how will we get there?

One of the things that made Atlanta a big film hub was the tax credit—and then getting some TV shows. Shows offer longer-term employment that might help either draw some union people up here or incentivize great non-union local crews to join the union. What would be great is if unions would allow people more than an hour outside the city to work on both union and non-union projects, but that negotiation is above my pay-grade.

It's great to have access to the city, but it's also nice to get out of city for a lot of reasons—there's a diversity of locations, it's a more pleasant place to live and to create, etc. There is no reason why the Hudson Valley shouldn't be a major center of film production. And, it's on its way.
